Our Story

Moving to Kadina in 1978 William (Snow) and Sue Walker purchased a Fruit Shop in the main street of Kadina. After 2 years of building this business up they decided there was time for a change. Snow and Sue sold the Fruit Shop and were in need of a new challenge. Being from a market gardening family they purchased Peninsula Nursery and Garden Centre back in 1980. Situated on a small block of land on Port Road it didn’t take long for the business to grow and the business to need a larger premises, a larger block further down Port Road was purchased and is where the Garden Centre now resides. With 6 children in tow Sue and Snow grew the Garden Centre to the thriving business it is today. Moving with the times and catering to the needs of the YP people, Snow and Sue over time incorporated building and landscaping goods to their Garden Centre. Paving and retaining walls were soon in demand and seeing this Snow decided to approach Adelaide businesses to have these products sold on the Yorke Peninsula.

Peninsula Nursery and Garden Centre has successfully grown over the years, currently employing 15 staff members, with support from the people on the Yorke Peninsula and Mid North Areas. Supplying this area with quality plants for indoor and outdoor areas, fruit trees, seeds and bulbs, landscaping and building needs, cement products, bird netting, bird baths, pots, shade cloth, hardware, pool and irrigation supplies. Delivering quality products and knowledgeable advice has always been the main focus for the owners and staff of Peninsula Nursery and Garden Centre.

Over the years Snow and Sue's children and grand children have been there to help with the development and running of the Garden Centre. Having a small amount of fish in the Garden Centre they together with the help of family built a Pet Shop in 2010, next to the Garden Centre. The Pet Shop stocks feed for a large number of different animals. You can find all sorts of pets in the Pet Shop including snakes, lizards, frogs, stick insects, fish, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, hermit crabs, just to name a few. Fully stocked with animal bedding, live feed, toys and any accessories your pet may need.

After 40 years of blood sweat and tears, Snow and Sue decided it was time to retire, selling their garden centre and pet shop to son Jamie and his wife Carol. Along with their own four children, Jamie and Carol are looking forward to continuing this family business with hard work and the customer service standards which Jamie's parents showed the YP community for over 40 years.
